Non destructive Testing (NDT) is the process of evaluating and inspecting materials, parts and assemblies.

RT X Ray film is still used widely, but with the introduction of CR and DR there is now a requirement for a reasonably priced, high resolution digitiser and gateway solutions which can quickly convert images from film to digital format. This has many advantages:
  • Once the image has been scanned it can be quickly saved as a TIFF, JPG or DICONDE file and stored on a database.
  • Electronic data and images can be quickly recovered from the database within a few seconds. (unlike traditional film archives).
  • Reports and photos can be easily attached to any scanned image and stored in the database.
  • Electronic files can easily be transmitted to any location in the world within seconds.
  • Once the images are in electronic format it is possible to use a variety of software tools to zoom in and search for artifacts and take various measurements. Various image enhancing tools can also be used.
  • Digital X-ray equipment sometimes has limitations in on-site in-service inspections and hard-to-reach components and structures or testing of very thick material.
  • The agreed standard file format within NDT is known as DICONDE. This means that any DICONDE compliant device should be compatible irrespective of manufacturer. Therefore any file generated on a CR or DR device could be imported into our software package, edited and stored along with all other DICONDE images and reports.
  • Now you can store CR images with your scanned film images.
  • Now your inspectors do not need to be in the same place as the film. Therefore saving time and money.

NDT Digital Imaging

We supply a reasonably priced, high quality NDT  scanning solution. The system consists of a Vidar NDT Pro Industrial X – Ray film digitiser,,  a unique multi strip film feeder to increase throughput by up to 500% when scanning film strips and our own NDT Gateway software which enables high throughput scanning of film and enhanced diagnostic tools.
At the heart of our system lies the Vidar NDT Pro Digitiser. Vidar have many years experience manufacturing specialised X Ray scanners and have established themselves as the reference in the Medical X Ray field. Nearly avery large hospital in the UK has a Vidar Digitiser.
This new addition is aimed specifically at the NDT market.
Easily meeting DA and DB classification.
Scan your film at resolutions up to 570 dpi
The NDT PRO offers the industry a product that is light, has a smaller footprint, and handles film as small as 2.36″ wide. Additionally, it contains VIDAR’s well-known High Definition CCD (HD-CCD™) solid state technology, as well as its unique ADC (Automatic Digitizer Calibration) feature. This feature makes certain there is virtually no variation in image quality and ensures excellent gray scale reproduction in every image.
  • HD-CCD solid-state technology
  • Removable/field replaceable LED long-life light source
  • Digitizes up to 25 mixed-sized films in batch mode, allowing more productivity and greater efficiency
  • Requires no manual calibration, cleaning, or maintenance.
  • Optical density range from 0.5 to >4.0
  • 11 line pairs per mm with geometric accuracy better than 1% or two pixels, whichever is greater, in both axes

The Digitiser comes with a built in Multi size film holder which can hold  25 sheets of film.

With the addition of our unique multi strip film feeder we have managed to increase the through put of film by up to 500%. This is important where large amounts of strip film are being scanned for archiving purposes.

The third component of our scanning solution is the NDT Gateway software , especially written by our own in house programmers.

Either with or without DICONDE support, this software will improve the performance of your film digitizer, giving you processing tools to enhance images and preserve every minute detail when converting them into digital form, which will enable you to correctly interpret radiographs.

AcuScreenNDT Gateway will allow you to adjust your scanner’s brightness/contrast settings .

You won’t miss any relevant specks and spots: porosity, burn-throughs, cracks, offsets and undercuts. You will be able to measure distances, areas, angles, as well as percentages of abnormalities (discontinuities) in particular ROIs. Add text and make notes on the scanned image. There are special features such as “Image Lock” which can be set to prevent anyone modifying the original scanned image and at the same time allows you to edit a copy of the image. Make your own reports which will be stored with the  images in the database for future reference.

The NDT Gateway is designed to work with most Pc’s. The digitiser is connected via the USB port. This makes it ideal for use with a laptop.
The software  also provides automatic configuration of the scanner and enable easy switching between film feeders.
Many helpful features are built into the software, such as teh ability to have multiple frames side by side on the screen . This enables you to easily compare images.
The software also includes a database with comprehensive search options. Store your reports, photos, etc in DICONDE format with your scanned images.
Our software can also be used to store, edit and display any DICONDE images from any CR or DR system.
We recommend that the AcuScreen NDT software is installed on a PC with at least 6GB of RAM, 3TB of HDD storage with a medical grade monitor with a minimum 2MP resolution. Minimum PC specification requirements can be supplied on request.
